Fishing Report:
Well, no such luck for me heading over to the Spring Creeks, perhaps Tuesday or Wednesday this week - have had quite a few reports in from guys around the area heading over though and when the wind hasn't blown you off the creek there's been good solid dry fly action with midges. Normally this is one of the only areas that is consistently fishing within a half hour of Bozeman, but this winter everything has been good.
Last few guys we've talked to have said eggs, midges, worms and scuds are working on the creeks. It's a good time of the year to fish the egg patterns over here on the creeks. Other than that, smaller mayflies if you like, but I typically like to fish scud and sow bug patterns - hot bead or regular either or. Of course the worm is a go to and bring along some midge patterns as well.
Streamer fishing at this time of the year can be deceptively good - I've spent a few deep winter days on the creeks and had some excellent streamer fishing in the middle of the day. Black, ugly and not too big would be the way to go over here right now. Little squirrel leeches can be a day saver on the Spring Creeks in January and February.
