Kris Kumlien - General Manager Kris was born into fly fishing. You could say it's in his blood. His father, Dave, started Montana Troutfitters in 1978 so when Kris was old enough to walk he had a fly rod in his hand. Growing up around a fly shop, you could say Kris was a little "spoiled." He fished with guides and his father, learning the tips and tricks of years of experience at an early age and rowing a boat before most learn to fish. Kris' passion for fishing led him to work in the fly shop throughout high school and college, doing some guiding during the summers. In January of 2006, Kris was offered a chance to lead Montana Troutfitters in a new direction as shop manager, and with his fathers blessing, he hasn't looked back, except to pick up 2 degrees in May of '06 from MSU in Finance and Economics. So stop by and see the difference generations of experience can make for your fishing experiences. |

Willy Self Willy was born in Reno, Nevada and spent his younger years in Susanville, California. At age 6 he began tying flies, basically coming up with his own patterns, anything that would catch fish! Willing to fish anything with water, Willy began his obsession with lakes early on in life. Moving to Bozeman in 1974, Willy spent the formidable years of his life chasing trout, some time in the Marine Coprs (Semper Fi) and guided for 13 years, 7 in Yellowstone Park. He's happily married to "The BOSS" Nancy. Willy is our resident lake and fly tying expert. Guide, shop assistant manager, fly tying instructor, the list goes on. Willy is a big part of the reason why Montana Troutfitters is the local fly fisherman's choice for a true fly shop in Southwestern Montana. Stop by and say hi and ask Willy if you can see "the truck." He'll know what you mean... |
