| Fly recipe Hook: Scud or Emerger Hook (Dai Riki #135 #125) Size # 16-20 Thread: 8/0 Uni Thread (Match to Color of Midge) Rib: Silver, Gold, or Copper X-Fine Wire Collar: Peacock Herl Shuck: White Antron Yarn Tying instructions: Step 1: Slide the bead onto the hook and then secure your hook in the vise and attach the thread to the hook wrapping uniformly to the rear of the hook, ensuring that you cover the entire hook. Step 2: Take the strand of wire and tie this in such that you leave the longer end of the wire extending out of the back of the fly and wrap forward over the tag end all the way will you are roughly ¼ of the way back from the bead. Step 3: You will now bring the wiring forward overtop of the thread making nice uniform wraps with spacing in between so that you can see the colored thread. Then tie off your wire. Step 4: At this point you are going to take one strand of the antron fibers, lay this with the long end extending towards the rear of the hook and fasten it down with thread wraps and trim the tag end so that the fibers don't extend past the bead. Step 5: After tying in the antron shuck you will tie in the peacock herl and wrap the front ¼ behind the bead with peacock herl and tie it off. Step 6: Now pull the antron shuck over the top of the peacock herl and secure it directly behind the bead, ensuring that the antron fibers are pinched against the bead and flare slightly upwards. Clip off the excess antron leaving roughly 1/8 - ¼ of an inch extending forward. Step 7: Now whip finish or half hitch, apply a small drop of head cement to the thread and you are done. |
