Fly recipe

Hook: 3X Long Nymph (Dai Riki #730)
Thread: 6/0 Uni Thread
Tail: Pheasant Tail Fibers
Abdomen: Peacock Herl
Thorax: Peacock Herl
Wingcase: Black Krystal Flash
Legs: Black Krystal Flash
Ribbing: Red Wire
Bead: Black Cyclops Bead

Tying instructions:

Step 1: Secure your hook in the vise and attach the thread to the hook.

Step 2: Wrap the thread to the back of the hook and tie in a small clump of 6-8 pheasant tail fibers. You can either clip these off right after the tie in if you want a slim body, or tie them down and build up your abdomen.

Step 3: Now tie in your wire and roughly 10 strands of krystal flash at the back of the hook.

Step 4: Now tie in 10 strands or so of peacock herl, enough to cover the entire hook and create a thicker thorax. Wrap the peacock herl 2/3 of the way up the hook and tie off here, but don't clip, you are going to use this again for the thorax.

Step 5: Now bring the krystal flash over the top of the peacock herl and tie down at the 2/3 point but don't trim it off yet.

Step 6: Now counterwrap the wire over top of the peacock and krystal flash and secure at the 2/3 point and break off the wire.

Step 7: Take 1 krystal flash strand on both sides of the fly and tie these facing backwards, these will form the legs.

Step 8: Now wrap the remaining portion of the peacock herl for the thorax, leaving it looking bigger than the abdomen and finish this off behind the bead.

Step 9: Next pull the remaining krystal flash over the top of the peacock herl and tie off behind the bead, here you will again take 1 krystal flash strand on both sides of the fly and face these backwards and tie down, and take 2 and face them forward for legs.

Step 10: Trim off the remaining few strands of krystal flash, whip finish and apply head cement. You are done.
